There are a few things to come back for, like challenges to help you level up your weapons and skills, but once is enough here. There was a retro style shooter revival in in the ‘10s, and it started before Doom 2016 with games like Shadow Warrior 2013.I was never a huge fan of the Build Engine-based 90’s release of the original Shadow Warrior, a game so full of Duke Nukem style juvenile humor, even the main character’s name is a dick joke: Lo Wang. The exploration sections are a little rough around the edges, but there's no denying that the combat in Shadow Warrior 3 is an absolute blast to play, with fast-paced action that never grows dull throughout the game's runtime. That may seem like a dig at wanting it to end faster, but it’s refreshing to just be able to breeze through something and not have to keep a notebook handy. Shadow Warrior 3 is a first-person shooter developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Devolver Digital. In fact, one of my favourite things about Shadow Warrior 3 is how quickly it can be beaten. The strict formula and lack of innovation does mean that things start to get stale in the final few levels as the game runs out of new things to do with itself and uses its 52nd dick joke, but blink once after that and you’ll have finished the whole thing anyway.īeing short isn’t a bad thing though.

Again, those additions are nothing that original or groundbreaking, but it’s refreshingly simple to not have to think too hard beyond whatever’s in front of you.
